RANGERS RAISING NOS. 3 & 9
The Rangers will retire the No. 9s of Adam Graves and Andy Bathgate, and Harry Howell’s No. 3 this season. Graves will become the final member of the 1994 Stanley Cup winners to have his sweater hoisted to the Garden rafters, the team said…
Graves’ No. 9 to be retired in February
The Rangers will complete the swift enshrinement of their Big Four from ‘94 and bestow what many believe to be long overdue honors on a couple of stalwarts from their lean years just three weeks later this February.
Adam Graves, the heart and soul winger who rode shotgun for Mark Messier throughout the ’90s while becoming one of the most beloved Rangers of all-time, will have his No. 9 retired to the Garden rafters on Feb. 3 - before the current club plays host to Atlanta.
And on Feb. 22, before the Rangers take on the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Rangers will retire No. 9 a second time - for Andy Bathgate - while also raising No. 3 to the spoked ceiling for Harry Howell.
Bathgate, who played for the Rangers from 1952-53 to 1963-64, ranks fourth on the club’s all-time goals list with 272. The Hall of Famer won the Hart Trophy as NHL MVP in 1958-59.
Howell played in more games (1,160) than any player in franchise history. He won the Norris Trophy as the NHL’s top defenseman in 1966-67 and was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1979.

Graves Night Feb. 3; Howell and Bathgate to be honored as well
The Rangers just announced they will retire Adam Graves’ No. 9 before their Feb. 3 game against Atlanta.
Another new development today—perhaps in response to some criticism about neglecting the franchise’s rich history—is that they will also retire Andy Bathgate’s No. 9 AND Harry Howell’s No. 3 in a ceremony in a ceremony before the Feb. [...]
Solution to Sundin Salary Cap Riddle
Riddle me this, Batman: If Mats Sundin wants so badly to come to New York rather than return to Toronto or takes Vancouver’s big bucks, but the Rangers need to shed enough cap space to make room for him, why…

“You don’t call, you don’t write…”
There are times when my relationship with this blog feels like the one I have with my own mother, which is to say if days go by without me touching base, I am consumed by guilt.
But what can I tell you? The combination of vacation and golf coverage has left this corner of cyberspace feeling [...]
This Is Pleasure
In my days at WLIR in NY I was lucky enough to have worked with some of the local talent including the Dancing Hoods. Their song, “pleasure” is featured in the opening of the latest Hockeyrodent Hockeybird Radio Show which can be found here. Listen to the lyric on the Dancing Hoods song, it contains one of my favorite lines. Well, two as I am tickled by the line, “I love you honey but not that much….” Oh, right….the Rodent and I discuss Shanny and Sundin. We also have a little tribute to Fasto & Fruitloops. Enjoy! Rangers Blog: Thinking Offensively
Last season, even with guys like Jaromir Jagr, Martin Straka, Seav Avery, Scott Gomez, Chris Drury and Brendan Shanahan, the team’s offense was below average at best.
