What most people don’t know, though, is that when Del Zotto was first demoted, John Tortorella received a phone call. It was from Liam Traynor, a 9-year-old Rangers fan with cerebral palsy, who had the coach’s phone number and used it to advocate for his friend, who just happens to be a professional hockey player.

Bernie Parent suffered a career-ending eye injury in 1979 in a game against the Rangers. Saturday afternoon, the legendary Flyers goaltender resurrected his career, if only briefly, in a 3-1 win over former Blueshirts greats in the NHL Alumni Game at Citizens Bank Park.
