Defenseman Dmitri Kalinin, who spent the past seven seasons upstate in Buffalo, will come to New York this fall as a member of the Rangers. The free-agent defenseman, who became an unrestricted free agent at 27, joined the team on Thursday.

HOLLWEG SHIPPED TO LEAFS
The next time Ryan Hollweg commits a bad penalty at the Garden, the Rangers will be the beneficiaries, not the victims. For Hollweg, the 25-year-old fourth-line winger who displayed a consistently admirable work ethic but an equally alarming lack…
Say GoodBye to Hollywood
We learned today the Ryan Hollweg has been traded to Toronto for a 2009 fifth round draft pick. After taking the stupid boarding penalty which resulted in Pittsburgh’s game winning goal in game 3 of the EC Semifinals, many Ranger fans wanted Ryan run over by the team bus.

Hollweg gone
The breakdown of the post-lockout Rangers continued tonight, as Ryan Hollweg was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs for a 5th round pick. Good deal by Sather, as Hollweg had really worn out his welcome with most fans. This comes just a few days after Jason Strudwick officially signed with the Edmonton Oilers, bringing the grand total of 2007-08 players to depart to ten (Jagr, Shanahan, Straka, Avery, Malik, Tyutin, Backman, Malik, Hollweg, and Strudwick). The rebuilding Leafs presumably needed a cheap banger to replace buyout victim Darcy Tucker. Hollweg may throw the body around, but he’s prone to extremely foolish penalties (particularly boarding calls), and can’t score to save his life. In 200 games over three seasons with the Rangers, Hollweg managed only 5 goals and 12 points, while going -26. Good luck, Toronto fans . . . if you loved Tucker you are gonna HATE Hollweg. One day soon I’m going to go over the Rangers cap situation in relative detail. I believe more little moves like this are going to be necessary to accomodate some of their offseason acquisitions. My thanks to my buddy, Rob, who called me dead smack in the middle of dinner to report this monumental news!…
Hollywood Shuffle

Hollweg’s fate was sealed with one ill-advised penalty
Ryan Hollweg probably summed it up best after his ridiculously boneheaded penalty against the Penguins in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference semis.
“I was playing my game,” he said at the time.
Which was exactly the problem.
The Rangers decided they could do without that game by trading Hollweg to the Maple Leafs today in exchange for [...]
